Blink was dressed in all black on the night of the 29th in Hartford Connecticut—rockin’ out the Dodge Music Center as they mourned the death of their good friend DJ AM. Whether the wardrobe choice was a reflection of sorrow or in the spirit of their rebel image remains a mystery, but a message was nonetheless conveyed. The band opened with a classic “Dumpweed” display followed by a good number of songs from their newest [self-titled] album, including: “Violence,” “Always,” “I Miss You,” “Feeling This” and “Asthenia.” Between Tom’s obscene gestures, a moment of silence and Mark’s memorable tears the band still found time for some classics—most notably “Don’t Leave Me,” “All the Small Things,” and of course their vintage closer: “Dammit.”

Despite the sadness of the group, Blink managed to put on an excellent show. It’s clear the boys are established veterans of the pop-punk scene—even having openly admitted their music to be, for the most part, a middle-school-adolescent escapade. The night was a black one for Blink 182, but hopefully the group can find peace of mind in the death of their dear friend as they trek forth with their westward tour.
