  • Artist of the Week: D-Why

    // April 7th, 2010 // 7 Comments » // Fashion, Music

    Let me introduce you to a guy who has more style, better flow and sicker rhymes than you. A young rapper from Charleston, WV, D-Why recently moved to the streets of New York City to, as he says, ”spread his wings.” But don’t let his less-than-urban background fool you. D-Why has the ability to write a witty verse in hard-hitting fashion with swaggering delivery. And did we mention that he is a fashion-head? Check out this post on Lateboots.com to see what we mean. But enough is enough. We’ll let the dude speak for himself. For more info go to D-why’s MySpace, become a fan on his Facebook page or follow him on Twitter.

    “My friends tell me I’m dope. Girls tell me I’m cute. My mom tells me I’m handsome. My dad tells me I’m talented. My little brother tells me I suck. But, I just tell myself to keep doing it. I’ve learned that life is what YOU make of it. So you have to go out there and get what you want. Reach for the stars–even if you land in the clouds, it’s better than on the ground where you started.”

    D-Why has generously provided us with four songs. Download them here. Below is a quick preview: “Turnt Up Freestyle.”

  • Artist of the Week: Sam Adams

    // February 9th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Music

    The founding father you ask? Or do we mean the beverage? Tasty, but wrong. We’re talking about Samuel Adams the up-n-coming rap sensation from Boston. His name, no doubt,  carries the essence of a great beverage. But his music goes down just as smooth as the lager. His rhymes are fresh. His beats are an eclectic mix of new and old. Mind you, it’s possible his big break came from a catchy remix of Asher Roth’s “I Love College,” but he certainly doesn’t lack creativity.

    Upon listening to “I Hate College“ you may be immediately inclined to jump upon your desk and rage. Nevertheless we urge you to first give the name – Sam Adams the musician, not the drink, got it? – a place in your memory. He’s performed with the likes of 3OH!3, Shwayze, Big Sean and Mike Posner. He’s constantly making new music. White rappers, let’s not forget, are a dime a dozen nowadays.

    To better understand Samuel Adams the musician, you might consider directing your attention to the short video below. It’s a behind the scenes look at his studio and how he goes about making beats. You can stay up to date with the Boston kid on both his Facebook page and his new Twitter account.

    Mr. Adams has been generous enough to provide us with a couple of songs to get you started. Download “Brand New” and “Better Than You” here.

    Musician? Actor? Something more? Indeed, to define the artist that is Miles Fisher requires some complex thinking. He’s made quite a few nighttime television appearances - The CleanerMad Men and Gossip Girl come to mind - several feature films - Superhero Movie, God and Generals, for instance – and he recently recorded and released a self-titled EP. In college, leading him to perform in over thirty countries throughout six continents, he was a part of the legendary Harvard Krokodiloes. At the request of  Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Fisher performed solo in front of the entire U.S. Supreme Court. Miles, furthermore, has a unique ability to morph into the unique styles and mannerisms portrayed by Tom Cruise and Christian Bale. In short, he’s kind of a big deal.

    Combining his strong acting ability with natural musical tendencies, Miles Fisher recently created the self-satire-recognition music video “This Must Be The Place.” Wow-ing more than two-hundred thousand viewers in the twenty-four hours following its release, the amount of time, effort and talent that went into the project is breathtaking. Perhaps most worthy of recognition is his Christian Bale impersonation that is spot on accompanied by a clever take on the American Psycho theme.
