Trailer: Rango

Rango is about a household lizard who becomes lost in the desert. The trailer doesn’t show us much more then a hot and bothered amphibian zigzagging around in a shrieking panic; but the animation is just stunning. From Rango’s Hawaiian shirt to the guitar playing amigo-owls: the visuals look gorgeous. Overall, we have high hopes for Rango; after all, Depp will be reunited with director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of Carribbean). This dynamic duo notwithstanding, there is reason to be nervous. These days, Pixar and Dreamworks are the big players in animated films. But the only film from Nickolodeon Pictures which has developed any kind of revenue is Bolt.

Rango hits theaters March 4, 2011.

SuperCar Challenge

SuperCar Challenge is a 3D-rendered short by Phil Shoebottom and his team of five artists. It is simply stunning how the cars – indistinguishable from real cars – seem to actually move and react to their surroundings. Completed in only eight weeks, SuperCar Challenge was produced using 3ds Max and Vray. The racetrack, completely digital, is based upon a real-life (location unknown) track, while all of the cars are original creations. You can download the short here, or view it below.

Just keep running, like the little girl from Forrest Gump said. Maybe I can hide up there in the chicken coop. But the air – it’s so thick; and if I just had a moment’s breathe. And as you start to slow by the bridge, you hear the sound of the giant footsteps return. Panicked, you realize that you have no option but to jump. You take the plunge; but the giant follows. It’s a highway duel, and now, your only option is a dangerous one. You take the high road; and from that point on it was all adrenaline. And space was removed from time until the chase became a vacuum of thought and sound. Will the giant make his move, running away in laughter?
