  • Software: F.lux by Stereopsis

    // February 27th, 2010 // No Comments » // Technology

    Apparently someone else thinks they’re fluxy. “F.lux” by Stereopsis is a unique piece of software by virtue of its sympathy for the headache-inducing aggravation that is eye strain. The program operates by adjusting the tint of your computer screen to accommodate the current lighting of the sun. At noon your screen is bright – just like sunlight – but as nighttime approaches your screen is gradually enveloped in a subtle red tint.

    You may be thinking: “What’s the big deal? I like my computer bright. I can see it that way!” But what about that last minute procrastination binge which becomes a long miserable night in front of the computer screen? Come morning – unless you were using the F.lux – your eyes are probably going to be a bit upset with you. The program, furthermore, is as user friendly as they come: “Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.”

    F.lux supports Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and is available for download on the the Stereopsis website. Our question for you: does F.lux by Stereopsis do justice to the real Flux?

  • Urban Label: 3sixteen

    // February 27th, 2010 // No Comments » // Fashion

    Every once in a while a brand comes along that truly exposes that ‘other’ side of street-wear culture. Never mind the flashy colors you too often see on the streets of SoHo, here’s a brand whose clothing embraces a more tempered and refined aura.

    Founded in 2003 and currently running out of New York City, 3sixteen is a leading brand in genuine made-for-men apparel. Having recently quit their desk jobs and both without any design experience, the two creators undoubtedly took a risk in pursuing their passion of clothing design. But after a strong start in the graphic tee arena, 3sixteen began to work its way into premium-quality outerwear, selvedge denim and hand-made shoes. A few of 3sixteen’s staple products, shown here, are the hand-made Deck Chukka, unique hand-crafted ties and the t-shirts through which their timeless influence is rooted.

    3sixteen’s mission, despite the typical motif for today’s street-wear market, is to provide sustainable every-day-wear for the workingman. The backbone of the label is U.S. based manufacturing: 3sixteen stays local and uses fabrics that are built to last. A street-wear label with an element of class, 3sixteen appeals to a wider demographic of urban fashion enthusiasts.

    As the Spring 2010 season approaches you can look forward to more doses of form-fitting 3sixteen menswear. Check out 3sixteen.com to receive information about hidden sales and promotions, but more importantly think about adding some pieces to your wardrobe – it might just bring out the fluxiness in you.

  • Artist of the Week: Sam Adams

    // February 9th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Music

    The founding father you ask? Or do we mean the beverage? Tasty, but wrong. We’re talking about Samuel Adams the up-n-coming rap sensation from Boston. His name, no doubt,  carries the essence of a great beverage. But his music goes down just as smooth as the lager. His rhymes are fresh. His beats are an eclectic mix of new and old. Mind you, it’s possible his big break came from a catchy remix of Asher Roth’s “I Love College,” but he certainly doesn’t lack creativity.

    Upon listening to “I Hate College“ you may be immediately inclined to jump upon your desk and rage. Nevertheless we urge you to first give the name – Sam Adams the musician, not the drink, got it? – a place in your memory. He’s performed with the likes of 3OH!3, Shwayze, Big Sean and Mike Posner. He’s constantly making new music. White rappers, let’s not forget, are a dime a dozen nowadays.

    To better understand Samuel Adams the musician, you might consider directing your attention to the short video below. It’s a behind the scenes look at his studio and how he goes about making beats. You can stay up to date with the Boston kid on both his Facebook page and his new Twitter account.

    Mr. Adams has been generous enough to provide us with a couple of songs to get you started. Download “Brand New” and “Better Than You” here.

  • Subcrew: Sub Division

    // February 8th, 2010 // No Comments » // Fashion

    Hong Kong based streetwear company Subcrew has recently given rise to “Sub,” an upscale subdivision, as it were, of Subcrew. Half-submarine half-crew, Subcrew was born alongside a mantra declaring: “The crew [must] stand fast at their posts and fight shoulder to shoulder together.” We haven’t seen too many items breaching the mainstream from the Hong Kong company; however in this case, the Sub by Subcrew Stadium Jacket – black on black, wool base with leather sleeves, simple back branding – definitely proves to be a unique piece.

    High-quality material is a necessity for streetwear companies trying to reach the next level of respect. In the Sub Stadium Jacket, wool and leather provide not only a great feel on the body but also a two-toned flair applied onto what would traditionally be a sweet leather jacket.

    With the release of the Sub Stadium Jacket we can now anticipate, in the approaching season, a jump from trucker hats to premium items like the Sub Stadium Jacket. After all, who doesn’t want to wear a varsity jacket? All in all we hope the visionaries over at Subcrew can pump the brand above and beyond local markets.

    The Sub Stadium Jacket is now available on Subcrew’s Online Store.
